Story Information

A mysterious slave from foreign parts.

Since she speaks a different language, not much is known about her. She seems hostile at times, but again, the language barrier makes it difficult to understand her (If you've watched anime or know some Japanese, you will probably know some of what she is saying). You first meet her when you buy her at the Slave Market, where she then proceeds to electrocute you, leading you to realize that this one wasn't going to be easy.

Tactics

Chimei is the most unique of spell casters, relying exclusively on evocations. She specializes in lightning and sonic damage (which makes her an anti-mage mage, and excellent in crowd control), and can learn venom, cold, and necrotic spells, as well as a healing spell and purify for dispelling, making her highly versatile.

Evocations are simultaneously her biggest advantage over other spell casters and her main disadvantage. They require both mana and momentum, which makes setting up consistent damage a challenge. If you can do it, however, evocations are usually more powerful than spells, as they always hit at least two times or have an additional effect. Against bosses, you can use this to hit a single enemy up to eight times with only one spell. Against groups, the targets are picked by random, which means it's harder to snipe away a single dangerous enemy, but you dish out higher damage overall. Unlike aoe-spells which deal less individual damage, depending on the number of enemies they hit, every single hit of any evocation hits with full power every time. Also, every hit has a higher individual chance to apply debuffs on every hit (like deafen from sonic magic or agility-debuff from cold magic). Also, you can still cast evocations even if Chimei is deafened, unlike spells.

The good news is that generating momentum isn't as difficult with her as with other characters. Next to the usual ways (attacking, guarding or taking damage) she passively regains momentum whenever she casts any evocation (this effect refunds costs whether the evocation hits or not). Her Momentum Transfer evocation generates 8 momentum at the end of each turn for the next five turns. And of course, you can give her an item that helps in this regards, such as the Warrior Badge.

One big problem about Chimei is her cost, she's one of the more expensive slaves. and it will be a while before the player can get the whopping 60000 to buy her (and even if you have the money, might want to consider whether there are more urgent things to spend it on).

To use her to her full potential, you need to get used to momentum management. Once you do, Chimei can be used in any party, either as a sweeper or boss-killer. She benefits from having Diadira in the party since it will mean more momentum generation. Although she's not as squishy as other damage dealers, having a healer in allows her to play more offensive in general. She also pairs well with other spellcasters who can buff her or debuff the enemy so she can do even more damage.
