Story Information

A mysterious slave from foreign parts.

Since she speaks a different language, not much is known about her. She seems hostile at times, but again, the language barrier makes it difficult to understand her (If you've watched anime or know some Japanese, you will probably know some of what she is saying). You first meet her when you buy her at the Slave Market, where she then proceeds to electrocute you, leading you to realize that this one wasn't going to be easy.

Tactics

Chimei can easily fill the role of party caster. Having the widest selection of Elemental attacks to choose from, she is a remarkably strong caster, especially given she has the largest selection of multi-target spells. The only down side is that she uses Evocations, meaning she uses up both her Mana and Momentum.

While she can self-generate some Momentum by getting her to Trust, the more reliable way is to use Transfer Essence, but that will then cut into her Mana pool. Another possibility is to use Honey to increase her Momentum. This can be fixed by equipping her with the Rhinestone Gloves, but that means keeping them from other party members for healing. Curse this thing called balance.

Chimei is an animist who works exclusively with evocations, just like Doll. Unlike Doll, Chimei learns mostly offensive evocations and one offensive debuff. She is your only natural source or lightning and sonic damage and she can diversify her potential by learning cold, necrotic and venom spells, as well as more debuffs to lower enemy stats. She can even learn a heal with Revitalize and a purge with Purify, making her capable of some off-healing if you're stacked with momentum.

Evocations require both mana and momentum, with makes setting up consistent damage a challenge. If you do, evocations are usually more powerful than spells, as they always hit two times up to four times or have an additional effect. Against bosses, you can use this to hit a single enemy multiple times with only one spell. Against groups, the targets are picked by random, which means it's harder to snipe away a single dangerous enemy, but you dish out higher damage overall.

Chimei comes with Transfer Essence to increase her momentum generation greatly, as she can reliably set up 15 momentum in addition to any she gets from damage taken, her trust bonus or equipment, which is the same as three rounds of attack would generate.

Chimei's role in any party is an offensive caster, even if her damage output is staggered by set-up turns. She can be used with any party, but works very well with Diadira. With her Rush of Spirit song, Chimei gains 10 additional momentum each turn, which allows her to build up for bigger spells faster or skip set-up turns altogether.
