* Heartbeat Panic, besides giving a decent buff to attack and magic as well as an increase in critical hit chance, gives each party member the chance (said to be around 50%) to perform two actions in one turn, for a max of 6. Obviously there's a little bit of luck involved, but the vast majority of the time at least one of your allies will get it. Also note that this is applied independently from any equipment that produces that same effect (the effects don't stack but they don't cancel each other either). So, for example, if you use this buff while the Aggart Warhorn is equipped you won't get 100% chance of a second action, but you get 50% chance of a second action, then 50% chance of a third action. Used in conjunction with double or group attacks, this becomes extraordinarily powerful and can help you go through large groups very fast.

Story Information

A pop idol literally enslaved by her contract, now free to explore the world and have adventures!

A pop Idol the hero "rescues" after her concert. She goes along with it very willingly, even offering him tips on how to work around her orders not to escape. In combat she is a bard, using music to buff her allies, restore mana, and even attack.

Recruitment

After attending her concert, the hero jumps down and fights past her security guards, kidnaps her and then takes her back to the Manor.

Skills

Songs Given By level:

  • level 1:
    • Heartbeat Panic: Allows everyone else in the party to potentially take 2 actions a turn for five turn as well as increase attack and magic attack (Diadira will spend those next 5 turns singing unable to do anything). It gives you a 50/50 chance of getting the mentioned second action. This chance is determined per character at the start of every turn.
  • level 10:
    • Resonant Frequency: 25 Momentum, Inflicts damage based slightly on Diadira's magic and her affection value, guaranteed to stagger most enemies, high chance of deafening enemies, small chance to knock them down, and a 50% chance to remove any cover statuses (cover, stonewall, shieldwall, guardian, and pack tactics)
  • level 15:
    • Rush of Spirit: Gives all party members 10 momentum every turn for five turns.
  • level 22:
    • Noise Riot: Gives all party members 2% MP regeneration per turn for five turns. Also gives all party members who can use prayers, spells, or evocations access to the magic 'feedback', which is slightly different depending on which version you're using. The Feedback magic will always do sonic damage and will increase it's damage output every time any of it's iterations are used during the five turns, after they are over that part of it's damage is reset.
      • Prayer Feedback- 11 MP, Inflicts some base damage and has an 80% chance to deafen the target.
      • Spell Feedback- 11 MP, Inflicts above average base damage.
      • Evocation Feedback- 11 MP/momentum, Inflicts some base damage and has an 80% chance to inflict Knockdown. Hits 2 random enemies.

By Relationship:

  • Like:
    • My Sanctuary: Gives Didi 25% health regeneration per turn. Gives all other party members a 2.5x threat generation and reduces all physical and magic damage taken by 15% (taking only 85% damage).

By Unity force:

  • Piano Duet: 10 Momentum, Summons a piano to crush all the enemies for sizable magic damage (and a slight chance to stun), followed up by Hero and Diadira doing a duet, healing the party (based on Hero's magic attack) and giving them regen status (Hero and Didi included).

Tactics

Diadira is the most unique party member. Instead of prayers, spells, evocations or techniques, she uses songs to grant her party members unique advantages. While she is very ineffective as a fighter, she makes for an exceptionally good support character.

Her buffs work in a very particular way. Unlike regular buffs they cannot be overwritten by enemy debuffs. However, they only work as long as she is alive, so if she's defeated, you lose the effects.

  • Heartbeat Panic, besides giving a decent buff to attack and magic as well as an increase in critical hit chance, gives each party member the chance (said to be around 50%) to perform two actions in one turn, for a max of 6. Obviously there's a little bit of luck involved, but the vast majority of the time at least one of your allies will get it. Also note that this is applied independently from any equipment that produces that same effect (the effects don't stack but they don't cancel each other either). So, for example, if you use this buff while the Agart Warhorn is equipped you won't get 100% chance of a second action, but you get 50% chance of a second action, then 50% chance of a third action. Used in conjunction with double or group attacks, this becomes extraordinarily powerful and can help you go through large groups very fast.
  • Rush of Spirit lets every party member build up 10 momentum at the end of each turn, additionally to natural momentum generation or generation through items. Very useful in short fights and at the beginning of fights. Plus, for characters that rely on momentum, such as Elaiya, Gargan or Chimei, this is a great way to use their skills to the fullest.
  • Noise Riot grants 2% mana regeneration for each party member, again this is additional to mana regeneration from equipment. Useful in long fights when mana becomes an issue or when enemies cut your mana pool with certain abilities.
  • Resonant Frequency, though it costs 25 momentum, deals moderate damage to all enemies and has the chance to apply Stagger, Deafen or Knockback to every enemy, making it one of the most powerful control moves in the game. Use it whenever you have enough momentum and your party members won't benefit from any of the other songs.
  • The last song My Sanctuary offers a defensive buff to the entire party that reduces incoming damage by 15% flat, increases threat by all party members except Diadira largely and applies health generation to Diadira. It can be used to either soften incoming damage spikes, especially if you can set it up before predictable group damage, or to save Diadira from being knocked out.
  • Additionally, she gains access to a healing ability if buffed with Unity Force by the hero in Warlord mode. Piano Duet deals a burst of sonic damage, has a chance to stun enemies and heals the entire party. It also applies health regeneration to your party members.

Because of her balanced abilities and pure supportive role, Diadira can work well with every kind of party setup and can be unlocked very early in the game. Heartbeat Panic is universally useful, but specially with spell casters that have learned group damage spells, while Rush of Spirit is the way to unlock the true potential of many characters; a high level Elaiya, for example, benefits tremendously from having her in the party as you'll be able to use her powerful techniques very turn.

Didi has two major disadvantages:

  • First, as you may expect, she's very fragile.
  • Second, she cannot perform any action as long as she is singing, meaning you effectively lose 1 action each turn.
  • Third, Heartbeat Panic, although most people go-to skill, will make you burn momentum and mana extraordinarily fast.

A couple of important things about her:

  • her songs cannot be interrupted by debuffs like deafen, knockback or paralysis if she is already singing when applied (not sure if that is intended or a bug). That said, once her song ends she cannot sing another song as long as she's under one of the mentioned debuffs.
  • there is currently a bug where if the first action that a character takes is a two-part attack (like the magics that cost 40 MP) for their first attack it prevent them from taking a second action that turn. You can however use such moves as the second action with no consequence.

Trivia

  • Her status "Formerly Known as Didi" might a reference to Prince Rogers Nelson (Prince) who, for a time, was called "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince" after legally changing his name to an unpronounceable symbol.
